Korea Won

The currency of South Korea is call won () (signcodeKRW). A single won is divided into 100 jeon, the monetary subunit. The jeon is no longer used for everyday transactions, and appears only in foreign exchange rates.

The old "won" was a cognate of the Chinese yuan and Japanese yen. It is derived from the Hanja (), itself a cognate of the Chinese character (yuan) which means "round shape." The won was subdivided into 100 jeon (Hangul: ; Hanja:  ), itself a cognate of the Chinese character (qian) which means "money" and also used as a unit of money in the ancient times. The current won (1962 to present) is written in hangul only.

Meanwhile, the coin that presently circulates has 10 wons and 50 wons and 100 wons and 500 wons four types (10 wons are the smallest unit). Because the won exchange rate is not high valuable, therefore 1 won, 5 won coin since February, 2001 stopped circulating. On June 23, 2009 South Korean Central Bank Bank of Korea release currency value was 50,000 wons (about 40 US dollars) banknotes; this was the currency value biggest bill that this country issued until now.

"Won Exchange" -Exchange rate quality
Super Worst exchange rate: The department store or five-star hotel counter in South Korea hold US dollar exchange won
Worst exchange rate: The airport bank in South Korea, or outside KEB changes the bank, takes the Malaysia ringgit exchange won.
Bad exchange rate directly: In the airport bank or the local in bank native place, takes the Malaysian riggit exchange won directly

Therefore, the best way are firstly in the native place exchange the US dollar.  When arrives at the airport bank in South Korea with the US dollar, or local KEB trades a bank. If can exchange at money changer at town are the best.

Arrives in airport, when the bank nominal rate of the entry seeing is \"sale\" price (trades won with dollar); Before leaving South Korea, in the airport boarding lounge seeing the bank nominal rate, is \"buying up\" the price (with won buys back dollar) both price normal are different. Therefore encourages the travelers who end uselessly the won, brings back to the native place to trade to other travelers, and reduces difference between remitting out.

Climate of Seoul

Although understood a bit Korea weather...
Now we move detail to Seoul weather...
Why Seoul ? Coz this the place are my main destination for vacation.

The climate of Seoul features either a humid subtropical or a humid continental climate. Seoul is classed as having a temperate climate with four distinct seasons, but temperature differences between the hottest part of summer and the depths of winter are extreme. In summer the influence of the North Pacific high-pressure system brings hot, humid weather with temperatures soaring as high as 35 °C (95 °F) on occasion. In winter the city is topographically influenced by expanding Siberian high-pressure zones and prevailing west winds, temperatures dropping as low as -13.7 °C (7 °F). The bitterly cold days tend to come in three-day cycles regulated by rising and falling pressure systems, during winter snowfall can cause frosty weather in the city. The most pleasant seasons in the city are spring and autumn, when azure blue skies and comfortable temperatures are a sure bet. Most of Seoul's precipitation falls in the summer monsoon period between June and September, as a part of East Asian monsoon season.

The best time of year to visit is autumn, from September to November, when the weather is usually sunny, and in October Seoul’s surrounding hillsides are ablaze with autumn colours.

Korea Weather

In Korea, winter normally start on December and lasts until mid-March. In the Northern region around Seoul temperatures are harsh. For the winter months the temperature is almost always below 0C. December, January and February get a lot of snowfall. The main reason for the extreme winter in Korea is the Siberian Wind that blows from Siberia. In the south of Korea, Busan winters are mild with an average temperature of 5c.

Spring begins in late March / early April and continues until the beginning of June. Usually the temperature will stay between 5 and 10c until late April when the temperature begins to rise. Also in April the cherry blossoms are out in full bloom and many people will visit parks to have picnics and view the beauty of the cherry blossom trees. One problem in spring is yellow sand / dust. This dust blows over from China numerous times during spring and can be hazardous. It is recommended by the government that you limit your outdoor activities, wear a mask and make sure that your windows are shut at home

The summers in Korea are hot, humid and rainy. June is quite nice with temperatures in the mid-twenties and lots of clear skies. However heading into July the rainy / typhoon period starts and it can rain for days straight on and off with lots of humidity and high temperatures. Humidity in July can reach 90%. The temperature for summer always stays above 20c and can reach into the 30′s.

Autumn is quite short and lasts from mid September to November. This is probably the best time to visit Korea. The temperatures are 15c +, it is quite dry and there are not many rainy days. There are 2 or 3 days usually when a typhoon hits nearby Japan and causes high winds and heavy rain.

Understood the weather are important before travel to Korea, then never carry wrong weather coat to there ^_^ On summer, can wear shorts with t-shirts . In the winter it gets bitterly cold so heavy clothing, a hat, scarf and gloves are needed.

Preparing....

The peninsula of South Korea is sandwiched between north-eastern Asia's geographic giant, China, and its economic giant, Japan. But that has not stopped the small nation from becoming a travel destination unto itself. While practical advice about what to pack and when to go is always important when travelling  making mental preparations for cultural differences and researching customs and practices can adjust expectations and allow to embrace and engage with South Korea immediately upon arrival.

Important Items need to pack.....

    • ~~Seasonal clothes: Korea is a four-season country, with cold, dry November-through-March winters, wet, soggy summers that last from late May until early September and a pleasant fall and spring.
    • ~~Passport: Check that passport is valid and up-to-date. Although Malaysian tourists and business visitors not need a visa for stays under 90 days.
    • ~~Antimalarials:Schedule a routine check-up with doctor to make sure vaccinations are up-to-date.
    • ~~Power converter: Bring a power converter for electronic devices. Electronics run on 220 volts in South Korea, is different from Malaysia.
    • ~~Money : Make sure bring enough money to visit....if not will be beggar in korea , haha ^_^
